Here at Lactation Cymru we have 2 IBCLCs!
Karen is an IBCLC, Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, ABM Counsellor and Coordinator, BfN telephone peer supporter, NBH Volunteer, Birth Awareness Practitioner, Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner, Mother to 4, Ex-teacher and peer supporter.
Karen has been supporting parents and babies in the community since 2011! She is Anglesey born and bred so is our resident Welsh speaker, and does most of the Social Media Stuff!
Amy is an IBCLC, Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, Natural Breastfeeding Program provider, ABM Counsellor and Mentor and NBH helpline volunteer. She has an M.Sc in Clinical Psychology from University of Wales, Bangor and is mother to 6 children who are Home Educated. She has been peer supporting in the community since 2012!
We met many years ago as peer supporters under our local health board, volunteering support to families on alternate weeks throughout the month. We have seen many parents come and go! We both became ABM counsellors and started volunteering on the National breastfeeding helpline. We have put in many hours on there and helped nearly 500 families there alone! (March 2021) All of this work was done as voluntary!
In 2019 we made the decision to push to that gold standard qualification - IBCLC. Many hours of virtual meetings happened where we would study and research. After a little coronavirus blip (ok, major covid blip!) we both sat the exam in September 2020. A stressful experience in itself! We found out just before Christmas that year that we passed! Yay! So then on 1/1/2021 Lactation Cymru was launched!
Onward and upward, and to help many, many more families!
